The Splendour

Rather than shift from this conspicuously spiritual state of mind into something a little more mainstream, I invite you to come, and witness some splendour. The 29th psalm makes it clearer than I ever could….

“Ascribe to the LORD, O mighty ones, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength. Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name; worship the LORD in the splendor of his holiness. The voice of the LORD is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the LORD thunders over the mighty waters. The voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the LORD is majestic. The voice of the LORD breaks the cedars; the LORD breaks in pieces the cedars of Lebanon. He makes Lebanon skip like a calf, Sirion like a young wild ox. The voice of the LORD strikes with flashes of lightning. The voice of the LORD shakes the desert; the LORD shakes the Desert of Kadesh. The voice of the LORD twists the oaks and strips the forests bare. And in his temple all cry, “Glory!” The LORD sits enthroned over the flood; the LORD is enthroned as King forever. The LORD gives strength to his people; the LORD blesses his people with peace.”

and the splendour of this, the Pange Lingua, a Eucharistic hymn, about which I have little real knowledge, apart from being aware that it is perfect and enchanting…

Sing, my tongue, the Saviour’s glory,of His Flesh, the mystery sing….

  1. I came home from work, tired and with too many things on my mind. I went through emails and wordpress and came upon your blog post. It’s the only post I have read as of now. What a gift, a wonderful balm for a tired, preoccupied soul. Thank you. Watching the video of Adoration has soothed me tremendously. It made me realize that I haven’t been to Eucharistic Adoration in a few weeks and am in much need of a visit with Jesus.

  2. How can I not like this? 😀 But you want to be careful Daniel. One minute you’re open-mindedly appreciating elements of the Catholic tradition… and the next, you’re kow-towing to the Pope :p

But I love this hymn and thank you so much for posting it.
